What Is a Research Question in Evidence-Based Biblical Studies (EBBS)?

A research question in Evidence-Based Biblical Studies (EBBS) is not a simple interrogative formula nor a vehicle for a presupposed answer. It is an epistemic instrument designed to open a controlled space of analysis rather than to predetermine its outcome. An EBBS question defines the scope of inquiry, structures classes of data, specifies relevance criteria, and makes the degree of uncertainty explicit. It is constructed sequentially: beginning with the reconstruction of language and textual criteria, followed by the identification of empirical data, and culminating in their critical confrontation. Its quality is measured not by the originality of a claim, but by its capacity to activate an analysis proportional to the available evidence and to disclose the limits of interpretation.
